For centuries, Central Asia stood at the crossroads of trade routes, cultures and states. The cities of ancient Sogd developed here, Silk Road routes crossed the region, and fortresses, mosques, madrasas and caravanserais became part of its landscape. 7 Belles cultural journeys connect historic landmarks with contemporary cities and everyday life. An ancient settlement may be followed by a busy bazaar, a museum by a small craft workshop, and the remains of the Silk Road by the streets of a modern city. In Tajikistan, these journeys lead through Panjakent, Sarazm, Istaravshan, Khujand, Hissar and Dushanbe. On our Cities & Seven Lakes journey, for example, the route begins with Ancient Panjakent and Sarazm, continues through Istaravshan and Khujand, and ends in Dushanbe and Hissar.
